Home Builder Sub-Floor

Every day companys are trying to improve the products and methods of new home construction. The common practices of 15 years ago just don't cut it in todays building and remodeling industry. Traditionally 3/4" plywood has been used as a subfloor. In heavy rains and high humidity a plywood subfloor can bubble, bow, and warp during the, rough in framing, phase of the construction. In more recent years some builders have switched to a 3/4" OSB. This method usually cost less and prevents some of the water issues. The main problem with osb is the ends of the sheets will swell causing a poor seam in transition.

Advantech is an engineered product that holds up to moisture better than other options. It is also much stronger than osb and plywood. Not all builders use this product, but it is one example of what you can look for when selecting a builder for your next home.
